Getafe secure Escudero on loan

Getafe have signed left-back Sergio Escudero from Schalke on loan until the end of the season, according to a statement released by the Bundesliga club on Friday.

Escudero, 23, will fill the gap on the left of Getafe's defence caused by an injury to first choice Mane, and could make his debut for Luis Garcia’s side against Real Madrid in La Liga at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday.

“Sergio Escudero has been transferred until the end of the season to Spain,” a Schalke club statement read. “Schalke 04 have loaned the left-back to Primera Division side FC Getafe until June 30.”

Escudero joined Schalke for €2.4 million from Segunda Division side Real Murcia in the summer of 2010, when his compatriots Raul and Jose Manuel Jurado also joined the Bundesliga club.

The Valladolid-born defender has since made just 19 competitive appearances for the Royal Blues, and has not featured in the Bundesliga this season. His current contract with Schalke runs until June 2014.

Getafe had been heavily linked with a move for Roma left-back Jose Angel, who is currently on loan but not featuring regularly at Real Sociedad, yet that interest now appears to have ended.
