Domenico Berardi not going to Inter Milan - Sassuolo's Carnevali

Sassuolo's general manager Giovanni Carnevali has brought an end to speculation about Domenico Berardi's future by saying the forward will not be leaving.

The Italy under-21 talent has been extensively linked to first Juventus, which he rejected, and then Inter Milan, who were reported to have made a lucrative offer for him.

"I reiterate what we were saying one month ago," Carnevali said. "We haven't had a firm offer from Inter, and even if we did receive one, nothing would change because we have very clear ideas [on Berardi's future] that cannot be overturned overnight.

"The lad wants to continue gaining experience at Sassuolo, and he will now have the international window represented by the Europa League. It's not that he 'rejected' Juve -- we reached this decision together and on our part we were delighted because it means that he values Sassuolo as a club. And for us and in the light of our next engagements, Berardi is irreplaceable."

Meanwhile, captain Francesco Magnanelli has said that he "never expected Sassuolo's journey when I joined the club in Serie C2 [Italy's fourth tier].

"Our hard work has paid off and we can now celebrate. Iceland are doing something extraordinary at the Euros, but all with good preparation and planning behind the scenes, and their philosophy is just like Sassuolo's."

The midfielder added that defender "[Francesco] Acerbi deserved to be among the 23 men called up by Antonio Conte. Berardi is a different story as, albeit a key player, he needed to finish his journey with the U21 team.

"I respect Conte immensely and he is a coach I hold in the highest esteem, but I do think that Sassuolo would have deserved a bit more consideration for this Euros."
