Brazilian side Santos have offered Neymar a new contract in an attempt to ward off interest from Europe’s elite this summer.
Neymar, 21, is one of the world’s hottest prospects and has been the subject of repeated interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, while Manchester City and Chelsea have also shown a desire to sign the youngster.
Santos and the player himself have insisted that he will not leave before the 2014 World Cup, held in his native Brazil, and the club have now put a new deal on the table in an effort to persuade him to stay.
"Santos have now offered us a deal for him to renew his contract, but we will have to wait and talk to them," Neymar's father and agent explained at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Brazil.
"It is very difficult to see him leaving before 2013 although we will have to think about what is best for him."
Neymar's current deal expires in 2014, so an extension would ensure that the forward would require a fee when he does leave the club.
