Neymar unsure of next chapter

Santos striker Neymar says he is unsure what the future holds for him when his current contract runs out with the club in 2014.

Neymar, 20, considered one of the world’s biggest talents, has long been attracting interest from a whole host of clubs, including both Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Barca were reported to have reached an agreement with Santos that would see the Brazil international move to Spain either next summer or after the 2014 World Cup, although the player himself has since rubbished the rumours.

While Neymar insists that he is happy at his current club, he has admitted that he does not know yet what lies in store for him next.

“My contract runs to 2014 but there’s still a long way to go before the World Cup,” he told FIFA in an exclusive interview.

“I don’t know if I’ll renew it or not. It’s a personal issue and I’ll have to talk it through with my family and Santos. We’ll definitely speak about it further down the line.”

With Neymar continuing to delay a move to Europe, many have commented that it may affect his development as a player – a view that is not shared by the Santos man.

“You can develop and improve your game whether you’re in Brazil or not,” Neymar said.

“Personally I feel I’m becoming a better player and getting more experience as every year goes by. Some people say you have to leave to develop but I don’t agree with that.”

Managers and players alike are keen for Neymar to come to Europe sooner rather than later, with Barcelona defender Dani Alves telling FIFA that he is always trying to convince his Brazil team-mate to sign for the Catalan club.

“Dani’s always embarrassing me! He’s put me in a tight spot,” Neymar said.
