San Jose Earthquakes' Marc Pelosi to miss 2-3 months with knee injury

San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Marc Pelosi will miss two to three months after having surgery on his left knee on Friday.

Pelosi, 21, needed treatment to "resolve chronic tendinitis," the MLS club announced. The injury is to the other leg than Pelosi previously injured while with Liverpool's under-21 squad.

The procedure will also rule Pelosi out of the United States' under-23 team's attempt to qualify for the Olympics against Colombia in Mach.

Pelosi has been invited to the U.S. senior squad's January camp for two straight years, though his knee forced him to skip this year's event.

Pelosi played in 12 games for the Earthquakes last season, starting seven times.
