Rapid Bucuresti declared bankrupt with debts of €4 million

Three-time Romanian champions Rapid Bucuresti have been declared bankrupt by a Romanian court.

The club, with debts of €4 million, filed for insolvency in 2012. Half the debts are unpaid taxes.

Rapid have seven days to appeal against Tuesday's ruling by the Bucharest Court.

They have won three Romanian Liga titles and 13 Romanian Cups, the last of those coming in 2007, while they reached the UEFA Cup quarterfinals in 2006.

Rapid were founded by railway workers in 1923, and their Giulesti Stadium is close to Bucharest's main railway station.

Six other Romanian clubs have filed for insolvency -- Universitatea Cluj, Otelul Galati, Dinamo Bucuresti, CFR Cluj, Petrolul Ploiesti and FC Brasov.
