Romania cut Stuttgart's Alexandru Maxim from Euro 2016 squad

Romania head coach Anghel Iordanescu announced his 23-man squad for Euro 2016, with Stuttgart midfielder Alexandru Maxim failing to make the cut.

Along with Adrian Ropotan, Ioan Hora, Alin Tosca and Andrei Ivan, the five players missed out on the final squad, with Iordanescu revealing that the five of them will still travel to France as part of the Romanian Football Federation's guests.

"I thank all the players who took part in the training session in Italy, and the clubs where they have developed. I'm so sorry to have to give up five players," he said in a statement released by the FRF's website.

Romanian will take on Georgia in their last international friendly on Friday before they prepare for the tournament opener against host nation France on June 10. Also in their group are Switzerland and Albania.
