Miranda, Neymar on target as Brazil grab vital win against Colombia

Neymar's second-half strike earned Brazil a 2-1 victory in A CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying clash with Colombia in Manaus.

It could turn out to be a vital winner as it moved the hosts into second place in the group, one point behind Uruguay and above Argentina on goal difference.

Miranda gave the Selecao the perfect start with the opening goal after just 90 seconds but an own goal from Marquinhos got Colombia back into the game.

However, Philippe Coutinho teed up Neymar to hit the winner with 74 minutes on the clock.

Brazil got off to a dream start 90 seconds into the contest when Neymar's corner was met by Miranda and he powered a header past David Ospina and into the net.

Luis Muriel then headed over for Colombia as they tried to get themselves back into the game.

Neymar then tried his luck with a free kick in the 14th minute but his effort flew high and wide.

Neymar was a constant thorn in the side of the Colombia defence and his ball found Marcelo but his left-footed strike drifted wide.

Macnelly Torres saw a rare effort for Colombia blocked before at the other end Renato Augusto forced a save out of Ospina as Brazil continued to dominate.

And Colombia drew level in the 36th minute after Marquinhos got a touch onto James Rodriguez's free kick and headed the ball past his own goalkeeper.

Ospina again had to be sharp to deny Neymar when he got down low to turn away an effort from the dangerman moments after Colombia had got themselves level.

Paulinho saw an effort early in the second half blocked as Brazil pushed on looking to restore their lead.

Muriel narrowly dragged a shot wide before another effort was blocked as Colombia enjoyed a brief spell of pressure in the Brazil half.

Miranda and Gabriel Jesus both went close for Brazil before the Selecao went ahead when substitute Coutinho played in Neymar and he made no mistake, dispatching a left-footed shot into the net past Ospina.
