Investigation into Inter's pursuit of Real Madrid's Luka Modric dropped by FIFA

FIFA have closed an investigation into Inter Milan and their pursuit of Luka Modric this summer since they say there are no grounds to continue.

Real Madrid lodged an official complaint with FIFA, claiming that Inter had made an illegal approach for the UEFA Player of the Year, who was strongly linked with a move to the Nerazzurri over the summer.

Their complaint was rejected on Monday, however, with FIFA informing both clubs in a letter that the case was closed since there were no grounds to proceed with a full and thorough investigation.

Real president Florentino Perez was adamant Inter had tried to sign Modric for free.

"They tried to sign our No. 10 without paying for him," he said. "It's the first time I've seen something like that in my life."

When confronted with Perez's remarks at the Champions League group stage draw last Thursday, Inter's vice-president Javier Zanetti said that he would consider whether to take any action in the appropriate channels.

Speaking on Thursday, after beating Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah to win the 2017-18 UEFA Player of the Year award, Modric said that he is was happy to continue Real Madrid.

"I've never seen myself outside of Madrid," he said. "I am at the best club in the world, where I want to be.

"I am very happy to be here and that's it. I want to keep working and doing things well like I have done in the last six years."
