Forbes names Real Madrid president Florentino Perez Spain's top CEO

Forbes magazine has named Real Madrid president Florentino Perez as the best CEO in Spain in 2017 for his work with engineering and construction company ACS.

Perez, 70, topped a list of 50 executives and Andres Rodriguez, the editor of the Spanish edition of Forbes, told Real Madrid's website that he "has been able to combine effort, team work and perseverance to place ACS as one of the main companies of our country."

Perez, who founded ACS in 1997, will receive the award at a dinner on Thursday.

His recognition follows an unforgettable 2017 for Real Madrid, who won five trophies in a calendar year for the first time in their history, including La Liga and the Champions League.

Los Blancos were named Club of the Year at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai in December, and Perez told Forbes that sport had been key to his business achievements.

He said: "Since I was a boy playing sports, I started to understand what is team work, motivation, effort, respect for your rivals and never giving up.

"Sport is a school of life and those values have helped me a lot in life and, of course, in the creation and development of ACS Group."

In June, Perez stood unopposed for re-election as president of Madrid and is expected to remain at the helm until 2021, taking his stay in the position to 18 years.
