Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane hails Karim Benzema after win at Eibar

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane said he was delighted for Karim Benzema after he scored twice and made two more in the 4-1 win at Eibar.

Madrid had been under pressure after three below-par performances in a week and had Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo missing through suspension and injury.

But Zinedine Zidane's side started strongly and were 2-0 up as Karim Benzema scored twice in the first 25 minutes, with James Rodriguez and Marco Asensio netting.

The result sent Madrid back to the top of the table, with Barcelona at home to Celta Vigo later on Saturday.

Benzema had not scored in La Liga for two months, and Zidane told a news conference: "I am happy for his game, for the two goals, and he was also involved in the other two.

"I am happy for him, and for all of them. We all played very well."

He praised his side's reaction to recent setbacks, adding: "Over a season there will be moments when you must suffer, sometimes you will play badly.

"That is normal. A team cannot always play well. Today we played a very good game, serious and intense from the start.

"We know there are many games still to play. This is a good sign for us.

"They [Eibar] are a difficult team to play against, at set-pieces, second balls, but we were very focused on these things."

Midfielder Casemiro said his team had "changed the narrative" and told BeIN SPORTS: "We started very, very strong and we must do this in all games.

"If we start like this, with the quality we have, it is almost impossible to lose the game. We played a great game today.

"Football is like that. In three days, you can change the narrative. We have changed and we are Real Madrid again."

Madrid's squad were reported to have had a clear-the-air meeting before training on Friday.

But Brazil international Casemiro played down the importance of the meeting, saying: "We had a normal talk.

"It is important, we are close to winning things still. We did not go crazy. We played three [bad] games, not a full season.

"We must remember that we were on a good run before. Real Madrid are still strong, still focused, and going for everything."
