Keylor Navas aims to win over Real Madrid fans and regain best form

Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas says he aims to "change the whistles into applause" after being barracked by his own team's fans for another mistake during Wednesday's 3-3 La Liga draw at home to Las Palmas.

Navas was whistled by some Blancos supporters after he had been at fault for racing from his line allowing Las Palmas' attacker Kevin-Prince Boateng to nick the ball around him and then knock it to an empty net to put the visitors 3-1 ahead at the Bernabeu.

This followed other recent errors by Navas in Madrid's defeats against Sevilla and Valencia. The Costa Rica international has generally not recovered his best form since a foot operation last summer.

Speaking in the Bernabeu mixed zone after Cristiano Ronaldo's late double had saved a point for Madrid, the former Levante shot-stopper said he was not afraid to admit he had made a mistake, but was confident he could come back from it.

"It is not the first time I have been whistled at the Bernabeu," Navas said. "I can turn the situation around and make the fans trust in me. People are free to give their opinions, I respect that. I am going to work to change those whistles into applause. I know when I make a mistake, I do not hide. I was called into action four times and made one mistake. When the bullets are firing you must show your chest."

Navas' recent performances have further fuelled speculation that Madrid president Florentino Perez will sign either Manchester United's David De Gea or Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois to replace him in the summer.

The 30-year-old said he could do nothing about the rumours, and was only concentrating on doing his best for the club.

"I am just focused on working hard and performing as best I can," he said. "You never know what might happen in the future, but for the moment I am defending this shirt right to the end, as I always do."
