Nacho's goal better than my Champions League final volley - Zidane

Zinedine Zidane has admitted that Nacho Fernandez's goal in Real Madrid's 7-1 rout of Cultural Leonesa in the Copa del Rey was better than his legendary volley that won the club their ninth Champions League title.

The Frenchman opted to leave Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo back home and his fringe players did not disappoint when they put on a show away to Leon..

Madrid were 5-0 up when Nacho produced a superb scissor-kick off a James Rodriguez pass to leave his coach speechless on the bench.

"What Nacho did is not normal," Zidane said. "I'm happy for him. It's a goal that will go down in history. It is better than mine from La Novena [Madrid's ninth Champions League title triumph]."

While Nacho stole the limelight with his goal, it was Marco Asensio and Alvaro Morata who scored two goals each and along with Ronaldo, Zidane revealed that the club are working quickly to ensure their key players renew their contracts quickly.

"It is vital," he said of Ronaldo's proposed contract renewal. "We want him to continue with us many for years. That is our desire.

"We want to keep this team as it is very complete and we are trying to continue with this [squad] for many more years to come."
