Zinedine Zidane the right manager for Real Madrid - Roberto Carlos

Real Madrid great Roberto Carlos has said former teammate Zinedine Zidane has already proven he is a perfect fit as coach of Los Blancos.

Zidane was promoted from his position as head coach of the club's reserve team, Castilla, to Rafa Benitez's replacement in January, and steered Real to a runners-up finish in La Liga and to Champions League glory.

Roberto Carlos said of Zidane, the three-time FIFA World Player of the Year, to Onda Cero radio: "He is going to do great things.

"You can already see his numbers. No coach, with all due respect to past coaches at the club, has achieved what Zidane has done in terms of creating a great atmosphere, modernising training and building trust with the players. I have seen it very few times in my life."

Real star Cristiano Ronaldo recently praised Zidane for bringing stability to the team.

"He [Zidane] knows Real Madrid well which is a plus, but he also listens, which is a big advantage," Ronaldo told Marca. "Zizou is calm, very professional and likes to work."

Real, unbeaten and level on 18 points with Atletico Madrid at the top of the league standings, are looking to end Barcelona's recent supremacy in La Liga and to win their first domestic title since the 2011-12 campaign.

Roberto Carlos says Zidane is the coach that can bring a change in fortunes.

"If I were not a Real fan, I would be praying for Real to sack him," 43-year-old Roberto Carlos said. "But seeing as I am a Real fan, I want him to remain for another 15 years."

Roberto Carlos played with Zidane at Real Madrid from 2001 until the Frenchman retired in 2006.

As Real teammates, their biggest achievements were to win one La Liga title, one Champions League and an Intercontinental Cup.

Robert Carlos says he has never seen Zidane as happy as he is now. "He laughs more now than before when he played," the Brazilian said.
