Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano to have street named after him

Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano will have a street named after him posthumously in Valdefuentes, in the Hortaleza district, near the team's training camp in the northern part of the city.

The Argentina and Spain international, who won five European Cups, eight La Liga trophies and two Ballon d'Or awards while at Madrid, was widely hailed as one of the greatest players of all time. He died in 2014 at the age of 88.

Madrid proposed naming a street after him two years ago, but the location was not agreed upon until Thursday.

"It has been approved by the District Council and is very important symbolically. That's why we're so excited to reveal it," Rita Maestre, spokesperson for the Madrid Council, said at a news conference.

"It will be right by Real Madrid City, which is also home to the stadium that boasts his name. It will grant the Real Madrid legend his own street in the city which enjoyed watching him play so many games."

One of Madrid's main stadiums at their training camp is named after Di Stefano.
