Real Madrid's Dani Carvajal has grade two tear of hip flexor muscles

Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal looks set to miss Euro 2016 after sustaining a hip injury in the Champions League final.

The Spain right-back left the field in tears in the 52nd minute of their penalty shootout win over city rivals Atletico in Milan on Saturday.

Scans have revealed a grade two tear of hip flexor muscles.

Recovery from a minor strain (grade one) can take one to three weeks while larger tears usually require four to eight weeks, which would rule him out of this summer's tournament in France.

"After the tests carried out [on Monday] at the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, the player Daniel Carvajal has been diagnosed with a grade two injury to the right iliopsoas," said a statement from Real Madrid.

"His recovery will continue to be assessed."
