Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo at 'my best level' for Champions League final

Real Madrid Cristiano Ronaldo has said he is at his "best level" ahead of Saturday's Champions League final against Atletico Madrid.

Madrid go into the game having come past Roma, Wolfsburg and Manchester City in the Champions League knockout rounds, while also winning their last 12 games in La Liga to push Barcelona all the way in the title race, with their form improving markedly once Zinedine Zidane replaced Rafa Benitez as coach in January.

Ronaldo was in excellent scoring form during the second half of the season, moving past 50 goals in all competitions for a fifth consecutive season, and has dismissed concerns that a muscle problem means he will not be 100 percent fit to face Atletico at San Siro this weekend.

The Portuguese told reporters at Madrid's media open day at their Valdebebas training ground on Tuesday that he and the team were happy with their form

"I am relaxed," Ronaldo said. "We are training well. For sure we will be ready. We are in good form on the right path. We finished La Liga season well, the Champions League too. We want a victory on Saturday to finish the season this way. It is the game of our lives, I believe we are going to win it."

Ronaldo heads into this weekend's game in better physical shape than two years ago when he was below his best but scored a late penalty as Madrid won 4-1 in extra time, having come through a full season without suffering any serious injury issues.

"I believe I am arriving in better shape, I have been improving," Ronaldo said. "I had a small problem, but that is normal being the most used player in the squad. I believe this is the season in which I have played most minutes, and I am at my best level."

As Madrid go for their 11th European Cup trophy, Atletico are still searching for their first, something which Ronaldo said could be an advantage for the Bernabeu outfit.

"Often experience is very important," he said. "Maybe we have an advantage in that, but that is not everything. We expect a very different game, Atletico will want to win, but we are ready. We must be better team, more intense and I am confident that we will win."

Atletico deserved to reach the decider, Ronaldo said, having eliminated Barcelona and Bayern along the way.

"We are the two best teams, that is why we are in the final," he said. "We will see how is best [on Saturday]. They always play the same way, behind the ball. It is no coincidence that neither Barca nor Bayern were able to beat them."

Ronaldo is currently on 16 Champions League goals this season, one behind the record he set when scoring against Atletico in the 2014 decider, so could match or break that this year.

"Records come along naturally as a consequence of what we do," he said. "It would be nice to equal or pass it - but the records come along naturally, I am not obsessed with them. The most important thing is the team wins the game."
