Zinedine Zidane not a fan of Madrid's James Rodriguez - Valderrama

Colombia's legendary midfielder Carlos Valderrama is concerned with the plight of compatriot James Rodriguez, who is struggling for game time under Zinedine Zidane at Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Having joined Madrid after the 2014 FIFA World Cup where he won the Golden Boot award with six goals, Rodriguez was touted as the heir apparent to Cristiano Ronaldo.

He played a significant role under the guidance of Carlo Ancelotti and then Rafa Benitez, but has seen limited game time under Zidane's care.

The Champions League semifinal first leg goalless draw away to Manchester City on Tuesday was another such instance, where the French tactician opted for Lucas Vazquez as a replacement for Ronaldo -- who failed a late fitness test before the game.

Even when Zidane tried to change the game with his substitutions, attacking options like Jese and Isco were brought on, leaving Rodriguez as an unused sub.

"Even if he scores three, four or five goals, Zidane won't put him on [to play]," Valderrama told Periscope.

"James is a player that he does not like.

"[Carlo] Ancelotti put him on and he played well, and then later with [Rafa] Benitez, but not with Zidane.

"So we do not understand what is happening with him."

James, a €75 million signing from Monaco in 2014 has only started one of Madrid's last five games. With four years left on his contract, it remains to be seen how his future at the Bernabeu will pan out.
