Real Madrid's James Rodriguez: I play better with support of Colombia

Real Madrid's James Rodriguez has suggested that he can show his best form for Colombia as he has "the support of everyone" when playing for his country.

James has not had a good 2015-16 at Madrid, falling out of favour under previous coach Rafa Benitez and also struggling to keep a first-team spot under current boss Zinedine Zidane.

The situation is very different at international level -- where the playmaker scored in Colombia's 3-2 World Cup 2018 qualifier in Bolivia last week, and again impressed in Tuesday's 3-1 defeat of Ecuador.

After the Ecuador game, the 24-year-old told Marca he was much more comfortable in the international set-up at the moment.

"When you play and have the support of everyone, it makes a difference," James said. "I wanted to have scored, but I am happy with these two games."

James is still expected to be on the bench for Saturday's La Liga Clasico at Barcelona's Camp Nou, with Zidane preferring to use the more defensive-minded Casemiro in midfield.

Meanwhile persistent reports around the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu claim that the €80 million summer 2014 signing from Monaco will put up for sale this summer by unimpressed Blancos president Florentino Perez.

Earlier this week, Colombia legend Faustino Asprilla claimed that the problem was that to be at his best James needed to be given an important role within the team, something which was not happening at Madrid at present.
