Zinedine Zidane pleased with Real Madrid win, worried by second half

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane admitted he was "worried" by his side's form when speaking after Sunday evening's last-gasp 2-1 La Liga win at Las Palmas.

Madrid were far from their best but seemed set for the three points through captain Sergio Ramos' first-half header from an Isco corner, only for ex-Los Blancos striker Willian Jose to equalise late on for Las Palmas, who dominated possession for long spells.

There was still however time for Casemiro to head his first ever Madrid goal and get the three points for his team, who remain third in the Primera Division table, 12 points behind leaders Barcelona and four adrift of second-placed Atletico Madrid.

Speaking after what was Madrid's final away game before they visit in-form Barcelona's Camp Nou on April 2, the Los Blancos coach told his postmatch news conference that he was happy to have won the game, but not so content with how his team had played, especially in the second half.

"I am happy with the result, and a bit worried about the second half," Zidane said. "The important thing is we got the three points. We will analyse the game. I am a bit worried with the second half, that's true. The players know what they have to do, but we lost such an amazing amount of balls today.

"If we expect to do anything this season, we must play better, that is so clear. Without that, playing like the second half today, we will get nowhere."

Asked if he felt relegation-threatened Las Palmas had deserved more in a game in which visiting keeper Keylor Navas made three outstanding saves, Zidane said his team's efficiency at set-pieces also formed part of the game, although he accepted that in open play his team had been second best.

"The result is not unfair, we won the game, with two dead balls," Zidane said. "That is also part of football. But we must recognise Las Palmas played very well. They have good players, and made it difficult for us. But more than that it's our performance that annoys me."

Coming off their midweek Champions League clash with Roma, Zidane shuffled his side with Dani Carvajal, Lucas Vazquez and Isco coming in, as well as Alvaro Arbeloa making his first La Liga start of the season at left-back.

"Alvaro is a Real Madrid player, and played very well tonight," Zidan said. "He is another member of the squad -- only who had no playing time with us. He played today, and played well."

Ramos did not finish the game, having picked up a second yellow late on for the 15th sending off in his La Liga career. Both he and first choice central defensive partner Pepe will now miss next weekend's home game with Sevilla.
