Gareth Bale criticism at Real Madrid 'very harsh,' says Wales teammate

Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale has been the victim of "very harsh" criticism, Wales teammate Joe Ledley has said.

Bale's form for Real has been under scrutiny this season, and he was again criticised after his display in Real Madrid's Champions League semifinal exit to Juventus on Wednesday.

The Welshman, 25, also faced insults from Real supporters as he left the Bernabeu after a 1-1 draw with Juve brought a 3-2 defeat on aggregate.

Bale defended his performance in the wake of the game, while Real coach Carlo Ancelotti also backed the player who joined Los Blancos from Tottenham for €100 million in 2013.

Crystal Palace midfielder Ledley told BBC Wales Sport: "Everyone's been very harsh on him.

"Last year, what he achieved was unbelievable -- Champions League winner and you can't write a script for what he did.

"This season everyone's getting on his back and he's still got 15-odd goals and eight assists. I would take that all day, anyone would.

"People just want more and more, and for me he's just brilliant. A team like Real Madrid are lucky to have a player like Gareth."
