Real Madrid's Dani Carvajal denies biting Atletico's Mario Mandzukic

Real Madrid's Dani Carvajal has denied biting Atletico's Mario Mandzukic after the two were involved in an altercation in Tuesday's Champions League quarterfinal.

Carvajal also appeared to throw a punch towards the Atletico striker, though the incident went unseen by referee Milorad Mazic.

The defender's face was close to Mandzukic's arm during their conflict, but Carvajal took to Twitter to deny reports that he attempted to bite Mandzukic.

"I saw after the game that I'm accused of biting an opposing player," he wrote. "Let me make clear that I have not bitten anyone, or attempted to do so."

Mandzukic was also involved in another physical battle that left the striker bloodied after he appeared to catch an elbow from Sergio Ramos.

That incident did not sit well Atletico defender Diego Godin, who said, "I was upset by Ramos' elbow, but that happens in a game and that's where it stays.

"The referee is there to decide what's a foul and if they're yellow cards or not."

Carvajal defended the Serbian referee, saying, "It's difficult for the referee in these games. With the tension that was generated, he was good, I congratulate him from here.

"We were the better team in the first half but we couldn't be in the second. The pitch didn't help. It can't be 0-0 at the Bernabeu. It'll be decided there."
