The Colombian artist who performed at Cristiano Ronaldo's 30th birthday party at the weekend said the Real Madrid star had been "a bit sad" at the beginning of the night, and that the event itself was a "family occasion."
The private party took place hours after Madrid had been humiliated 4-0 at Atletico Madrid in La Liga, and attendees included Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos, Sami Khedira, Luka Modric and James Rodriguez, as well as Madrid coaches Paul Clement and Fernando Hierro.
Videos and photos taken at the event, showing Ronaldo and his teammates singing and enjoying themselves, did not go down well with many Madrid pundits and fans still hurting from their worst "derbi" defeat in decades.
Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, defended the party, saying his client had also been feeling down after the disappointment but that to cancel it would have upset friends and family who had travelled to Madrid.
Kevin Roldan, the reggaeton performer who provided the entertainment, added his backing for the Portugal international in an interview with RCN Radio.
"Cristiano is an excellent person," Roldan said. "I talked with him before the party. He was a bit sad as they had lost, but it was his birthday.
"But I did not have much time with him, as there were a lot of family and guests there. It was a family occasion, with a lot of children -- not a party with women or drinking."
The furore around the party has boosted Roldan's public profile in Europe, but he said nobody had a problem with him publishing the Instagram photos that helped spark debate.
"Everyone is very relaxed about it, even with the controversy in the Madrid papers," Roldan said.
"I am very happy. If you had a photo taken with Cristiano Ronaldo, you'd put it up on Instagram too. They asked me a month ago and I was very happy to perform for the best player in the world. If they asked me not to publish anything, I would not have published anything."
Meanwhile, Spanish TV station Cuatro has claimed Madrid could fine James and Khedira for attending the event in an apparent breach of club rules stipulating that injured players must rest.
Colombia international James had an operation on a broken foot the day before the party, while Germany midfielder Khedira was substituted at half-time against Atletico with a hamstring problem that is set to sideline him for some weeks.
Although other senior players including Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos were among those who declined to attend, Khedira told Bild he felt it would have been rude to refuse.
"When you get invited by Ronaldo, proper respect demands that you accept the invitation," he said. "It was a dinner, not a party. I did not drink alcohol and left at half one in the morning."

Ex-Madrid player and current FIFA presidential candidate Luis Figo also defended his compatriot, saying anyone who had followed Ronaldo's career should think twice about questioning either his professionalism or commitment.
