Real Madrid's Sami Khedira released from hospital after concussion

Real Madrid and Germany midfielder Sami Khedira has been released from hospital after suffering concussion in a clash of heads during Tuesday's 5-0 Copa del Rey win over Cornella.

Khedira, making only his second start of the season after injuries -- the other coming in the first leg of the Cornella tie -- had spent the night under observation.

The Blancos No. 6 came off the worst in an aerial challenge with a Cornella defender, and was attended by medical staff. He attempted to return to the pitch, but was substituted after feeling dizzy.

A Real Madrid statement confirmed that the 27-year-old Germany international had now been given the all-clear.

"Following neurological exams performed on Sami Khedira today in the Sanitas La Moraleja hospital, the player has been discharged," the statement said.

Khedira's future has been the subject of speculation, with his contract ending in June.

Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has said he hopes a new deal can be agreed to keep him at the club, but widespread reports have claimed he has already agreed to join Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich on a free transfer.

Ancelotti told his postmatch news conference that he was happy with his side's performance in the cup tie.

The goals came from James Rodriguez (two), Isco, an own goal and a strike from youngster Jese Rodriguez in his first game after returning from nine months out with a knee injury.

"We played a serious match, were focused and won well, showing our quality -- exactly what we had asked for before the game," Ancelotti said.
