Juve upbeat over Higuain transfer

Juventus are confident they remain in the frame to sign striker Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid despite a report in The Guardian that Arsenal have agreed a deal with him.

The Serie A club’s general director, Giuseppe Marotta, said he believed the 25-year-old could still be the answer to his club’s striker shortage.

Manchester City forward Carlos Tevez and Stevan Jovetic of Fiorentina have also been linked with a move to Juve.

"Higuain? I do not want to say anything, because there is still so much time left for things to happen," Marotta told Sky Sports. "There is no hurry.”

He said Tevez and Jovetic “are both great players but they are also with great clubs, so it would not be right to discuss them”.

And he added that he was keen not to “create an illusion that things are already in motion".

The Guardian report suggests that Arsenal believe Higuain could complete a move to the Emirates Stadium on a four-year deal before they tour Indonesia, Vietnam and Japan next month.

Madrid have circulated his name to potential buyers, and the Gunners are thought to be prepared to break their £15 million transfer record to bring him to London.

Talks between Arsenal and Higuain's representatives have reportedly been ongoing in recent weeks.
