Gus Poyet not worried about Real Betis future despite losses

Under-pressure Real Betis coach Gustavo Poyet is unfazed by reports in Spain that he could be on his way out the club door after a poor run of results.

Marca claimed on Monday that Poyet's future is up in the air after Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Villarreal, Betis's fourth loss in their last five league games.

Betis head into the international break in 14th place with 11 points from 10 games and according to Marca, although the club executives have not made a decision yet, the Uruguayan's future is "by no means guaranteed."

Poyet, in his first season as a La Liga coach, told Marca: "I'm not worried about being sacked, I'm calm.

"Being given a job or being dismissed is a decision that also depends on others and it doesn't depend on me.

"I try not to be driven by emotions. I like to sit down and analyse things."

Poyet has led Betis to just three wins from their opening 11 games. The Andalusian outfit have mustered just five points of a possible 15 in five league encounters at their Benito Villamarin stadium.

Betis have struggled at both ends of the pitch, scoring 11 goals while giving away 22.

"Of course, the responsibility is of the coach," Poyet said. "We need to find a way out of a situation which is difficult to explain to the fans and to the media.

"It's the time to be calm and find solutions."

Poyet, who spent seven seasons as a player with Real Zaragoza from 1990-97 and returned to Spain in May when he signed a two-year contract with Betis, believes he has the trust of his players.

"Considering the situation, I've seen the players eager to turn things around and we have to work on this," he said.
