Jaap Stam in line to be named new Reading manager - source

Former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam is in line to be named Reading's new manager, a source close to the club confirmed to ESPN FC.

Stam has been looking to take up his first senior managerial role after leaving Ajax's academy set-up at the end of the season.

The Dutchman is highly regarded within coaching circles and a number of clubs have been keeping tabs on his progress.

Reading are now ready to offer the former AC Milan and Lazio star the chance to begin his managerial career in England.

Reading have been searching for a new manager after Brian McDermott was axed last week following a disappointing second spell in charge of the Berkshire club.

Stam, 43, is to be handed the task of transforming Reading's fortunes as they look to mount a bid for promotion back to the Premier League.
