RB Leipzig boss Ralph Hasenhuttl: 'A lot of truth' in Arsenal job link

RB Leipzig coach Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed a report saying he could be Arsene Wenger's successor at Arsenal, telling a news conference: "It was a well-researched story."

Earlier this week, The Sun linked the 49-year-old Austrian with a move to the Emirates Stadium should 67-year-old Wenger decide to step aside at the end of the season.

Hasenhuttl -- who has guided his unbeaten team to the top of the Bundesliga -- said: "There was a lot of truth to it.

"I have heard of worse fates than succeeding the longest-serving manager in England. It's not damaging my reputation, is it?"

Hasenhuttl left Ingolstadt, the club he led to the top flight from the lower reaches of Bundesliga 2 in 2015, to join RB Leipzig in the summer.

"We don't have to put too much thought into it," he said of the Arsenal link. "I have found my luck here."

On Saturday, RB Leipzig host in-form Schalke as they look to extend their unbeaten run to 13 consecutive games.

"Schalke are on a roll and they look extremely stable," Hasenhuttl said. "Everything will matter in this match. We have to bring everything to the pitch otherwise it will be extremely difficult to land three points."

Leipzig could go into the match in second place if defending champions Bayern Munich win at Mainz on Friday, and Hasenhuttl stressed: "Bayern are the favourites to win the league."
