Ralph Hasenhuttl: RB Leipzig achievements are 'historic'

Bundesliga leaders RB Leipzig are aware they have "achieved something historic," coach Ralph Hasenhuttl has said.

Leipzig, only founded in 2009, have shot to the top of Bundesliga after playing a total of 245 league games in five divisions in Germany.

They needed only 11 games in the upper tier to end Bayern Munich's 39-match spell at the top of the table, and now hold a three-point lead on Carlo Ancelotti's men.

The Red Bull-funded club have won eight games, drawn only three, and by beating Bayer Leverkusen 3-2 on Friday became the first promoted team to not suffer a defeat in their first 11 Bundesliga games.

"The team's aware that they've achieved something historic," Leipzig coach Hasenhuttl told reporters on Monday. "To go unbeaten as a promoted team for such a long time, we'll take that."

Yet despite all the media hype in Germany and also in Europe, where Leipzig's rise has been followed with growing interest over the last couple of months, Hasenhuttl voiced his confidence that his young squad will not lose touch with reality.

He said: "We won't run around with our arms in the air all the time."

Hasenhuttl's sentiment was echoed by midfielder Emil Forsberg, who said: "We don't want to become snooty, we want to remain firmly on the ground with our feet."
