Rangers set to reach deal for Joey Barton departure this week - report

Rangers will bring the Joey Barton saga to an end on Wednesday after striking a severance deal with the midfielder, Press Association Sport has reported.

The Light Blues are desperate to offload the £20,000-a-week summer signing -- who has not been seen at the club for a week after being signed off with stress -- after his Ibrox switch turned sour.

They will finally secure the agreement needed to end their four-month association following final talks with Barton's representatives on Wednesday.

Barton has not been seen in a Rangers kit since their humiliating 5-1 thrashing at rivals Celtic in September.

He was involved in furious bust-up with teammate Andy Halliday and boss Mark Warburton at the training ground after the humiliation at Parkhead.

Rangers banished Barton from the club's Auchenhowie training ground, with the suspension eventually lasting eight weeks.

He was eventually allowed to return to training last week, but it was made clear he would not be allowed to rejoin Warburton's squad.

On Tuesday, it emerged that Barton's return had lasted just one day before he was signed off with stress.

A return to his former club Burnley appears to be his most likely option once the transfer window reopens in January.
