Rangers boss Mark Warburton denies Robin van Persie move talks

Rangers manager Mark Warburton has dismissed speculation that his side are close to signing Robin van Persie.

The former Arsenal and Manchester United forward was the subject of reports linking him with a move to Ibrox, with betting company Ladbrokes even suspending betting on the potential transfer.

However, Warburton was quick to play down making a move for the Fenerbache striker, who's reportedly earning over £100,000-a-week.

"I wonder what the first question will be," Warburton joked, as he sat down for his weekly news conference. "I have no idea where the rumour had emanated from. I woke up to a barrage of texts and missed calls, with apparently the deal done.

"Everybody knew about it apart from the people at Rangers Football Club. Out of our pay league I think is a fair comment.

"He's an unbelievably talented player but absolutely nothing in it whatsoever. I'm bemused to hear some of the stories, even betting being suspended. There is no truth in the story whatsoever."

Van Persie is the second high profile name to be linked with Rangers this week, after claims emerged that the son of former Celtic star Henrik Larsson, Jordan, was heading to the Light Blues.

However, the Helsingborgs youngster laughed off the suggestion on Twitter, posting: "Me? Signing for Them? Are u having a laugh?"

Warburton was critical of those coming up with the rumours, adding: "These stories do entertain me. I don't know where these things come from. I'm sure someone is laughing somewhere."
