Gordon joining Gers would be 'massive'

New Rangers defender Richard Foster has said he hopes the club can sign former Sunderland, Hearts and Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon, believing his arrival at Ibrox would be “massive”.

Rangers, who romped to the Scottish Division Three title last season, have been linked with a move for Gordon. The 'keeper is currently without a club but is training with Ally McCoist's side as he tries to regain match fitness following a series of injury problems.

“He's an international goalkeeper,” Foster said. “Everyone agrees that, when he's fit and playing, he would be in the Scotland set-up.

“Signing someone like that would be massive.”

Foster has agreed a deal to join Rangers after being released by Bristol City following their relegation to League One.

He spent the 2010-11 season on loan at Ibrox, winning the SPL title, and will complete his permanent move when the transfer embargo on the Glasgow club is lifted at the start of September.

“As a footballer, you want to win games and trophies and medals,” he said. “You can only win the division you're in, so to win the Second Division would be as big an achievement as winning the SPL.

“If anything, my time away has just reassured me of how big Rangers are. A club as big as Rangers should be in the SPL.”
