QPR open talks with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink over vacant manager role

Queens Park Rangers have been given permission to speak to Burton Albion manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink about the vacancy at Loftus Road.

League One side Burton have confirmed that they have allowed QPR to begin talks with the 43-year-old Dutchman, with the Championship club seeking a successor to Chris Ramsey.

Neil Warnock, QPR boss between 2010 and 2012, has been in temporary charge since Ramsey was sacked on Nov. 4.

Hasselbaink was appointed Burton boss in November 2014 and guided the Brewers to promotion to League One for the first time in the club's history.

A statement on Burton's official website read: "Burton Albion have given permission for QPR to interview Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. The Championship club have been without a permanent manager since sacking Chris Ramsey on Nov. 4 and are looking to appoint a successor who can help guide them back to the Premier League.

"Hasselbaink has enjoyed a highly successful 12 months at the Pirelli Stadium, during which Burton Albion have been promoted from League Two as champions and rose to the top of League One with a 2-1 victory over Millwall last night."

Burton chairman Ben Robinson said: "QPR have approached us asking for permission to speak to Jimmy and we have agreed to that. He will be interviewed shortly for the vacant manager's job."

Tuesday night's defeat of Millwall helped his side to the top of League One, though the former Chelsea striker -- also linked with Fulham -- afterwards played down speculation it could have been his last game in charge.

Hasselbaink said on Tuesday night: "I can't stop people speculating. It's something I can't control, but it's not something that is relevant or something I need to speak about because there has not been an approach."

Former QPR forward Trevor Sinclair, a friend of the 43-year-old, who also had spells at Leeds, Middlesbrough, Charlton and Cardiff, believes Hasselbaink could make the move.

Sinclair told talkSPORT: "I've had a couple of discussions with Jim over the last few days so yes it is something that could happen.

"Obviously the contact has come out in the papers now and it is something that could happen, so watch this space."

Hasslebaink played in England for Leeds United, Chelsea, Middlesbrough, Charlton Athletic, Cardiff City, ending his playing career in 2008 before joining the coaching staff at Nottingham Forest between July 2011 and January 2013.

The former striker then moved into management with Royal Antwerp in 2013, but turned down a new deal with the Belgian side in May 2014.
