Queens Park Rangers wait on Charlie Austin to decide his playing future

Queens Park Rangers owner Tony Fernandes has confirmed that the club are waiting on star-striker Charlie Austin to decide his playing future.

The 25-year-old netted his 14th goal of the season in QPR's 2-1 loss to fellow strugglers Hull City on Saturday, leaving QPR sitting in 17th position on the Premier League table -- with only goal difference keeping the London side out of the relegation zone.

Fernandes has confirmed that staying clear of the drop will play a big part in whether Austin stays with the Hoops next season.

"Charlie is at an age where it's important for him to make the right decision,' said Fernandes, according to the Daily Mail.

"I think his heart is with QPR. Obviously he's thinking about whether we get relegated but I'm sure something will be worked out."

When asked if QPR have set a wage limit that they are not willing to exceed for Austin, Fernandes replied: "Spot on."

Austin's impressive form has seen him linked to a number of Premier League clubs throughout the year, as well as David Moyes' Real Sociedad in La Liga.

Hull City boss Steve Bruce revealed on Friday the he regrets the decision to pull out of a deal to sign the striker in 2013.

"Our loss is QPR's gain," said Bruce.

"Not only has he done as much as anyone this year but last season he scored the goals that got them into the Premier League. That is what he was brought in to do.

"We'd identified him. I think he would have been a real terrific player for us, as he has proved. He is a goal-scorer with a fantastic attitude."
