Michael Laudrup confirms he won't be new Queens Park Rangers boss

Michael Laudrup has said he will not be the new Queens Park Rangers manager.

Reports had suggested that Laudrup was on the verge of being appointed to the Loftus Road job following Harry Redknapp's resignation earlier this month.

But the Dane, currently in charge of Qatari club Lekhwiya and formerly Swansea's manager, was quoted by Danish newspaper Ekstrabladet as saying he would be staying put.

"It is always positive to be linked with big jobs, and taking over QPR is a big job," he said.

"But, having said that, I would also like to say that I have no intention of leaving Lekhwiya at the moment.

"We are top of the league and are starting the group phase of the AFC Champions League in two weeks.

"We also have the cup coming up, so the next three-and-a-half months will be very exciting and intense and I don't want to miss out on that."

Earlier, Laudrup's agent, Bayram Tutumlu, had said QPR may find it difficult to make him their new manager.

Speculation that he could be on his way to Loftus Road gathered pace after QPR owner Tony Fernandes tweeted on Tuesday: "Think I have got my dream manager. Not what anyone thinks. Take a while. Still a bit to go but I'm very happy. Press all wrong."

Former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood had also been strongly linked with the job, but talks with the club were reported to have broken down.
