Redknapp unsure on Nelsen

QPR are still unsure how much longer Ryan Nelsen will remain at the club but Harry Redknapp has confirmed the defender will face Tottenham Hotspur this Saturday.

Ryan Nelsen will eventually leave QPR for Toronto FC

The New Zealander agreed to take over Toronto FC as manager this week but, although he had initially expected to leave for the MLS at the end of January, QPR are negotiating for him to stay until at least March in order to help the club's survival push.

"I'm not clear about it actually," Redknapp said. "I'm not sure of the dates. I wish I could answer it but I don't know.

"The longer he's here, the better for us because he's a fantastic player, a great person, top professional. We need him around as long as we possibly can so hopefully we can keep him for most of the season."

QPR, however, have been frustrated in their attempts to sign another defender, West Brom's Jonas Olsson. Although the Swede is understood to want a move to London, his current club have rejected a bid from the Loftus Road side - with Steve Clarke also trying to persuade him to stay at the Hawthorns.

"We made an offer for him yesterday but it was turned down," Redknapp revealed. "That was it really, I don't know where we go from here. He belongs to West Brom. We've made an offer and that was it, that's as far as it goes at the moment. We've made an offer because we like him. Whether it goes anywhere I don't know.

"We're looking. We're trying every day but, unless we get someone we think can improve us, we'll just get on with what we have."

Redknapp is understood to have around £20 million to spend this window and wants to bring in two defenders and two forwards. In order to do so he has had to free up space in his squad and that meant that Kieron Dyer was released this week.

"It was difficult," Redknapp admitted. "In the short time I got to know him here, he worked hard, trained hard.

"He's only played a couple of games in the last few years and you think, if he can get fit, he can do a job for somebody. I've got to name the squad the end of the month, the deadline cut-off date was this week to let Kieron know whether I'd keep him or not so I've really got to open some spaces in the squad if I can get two in.

"I need to get some people in the squad that hopefully can stay fit, that's the key."

One player who will not be going anywhere, however, is Rob Green. Redknapp denied that the goalkeeper - who has fallen out of favour since the arrival of Julio Cesar - had handed in a transfer request and was angling for a move to Nottingham Forest.

Redknapp added: "He certainly didn't hand it to me, he's never discussed it with me. That's a new one on me. I'm lucky, I got the two keepers here, another lad [Brian] Murphy a bit younger behind him, so we're strong in that position. You need him, if you get an injury, you need two keepers."

Redknapp also insisted that Alejandro Faurlin remains part of his plans, but did admit the situation could change. QPR rejected a loan offer from Palermo for the midfielder this week, but are understood to be prepared to accept cash offers.

"I'm not looking to sell him, I like him," Redknapp said. "Good player, good footballer, smashing boy. I've had a chat with him this week and, unless the situation changes and I get two or three top midfield players in here, he's part of the plans."
