PSV confident Andres Guardado can return to face Atletico Madrid

PSV midfielder Andres Guardado should be available to return for his side's Champions League test against Atletico Madrid next week, PSV manager Phillip Cocu says.

The Mexico international injured his hamstring in a game on Jan. 30, and the Dutch club had previously said he would miss the first leg against Atletico.

Guardado will still miss this weekend's Eredivisie match against Heracles, but Cocu said he expects Guardado to return to action for Wednesday's Champions League match.

"I think Guardado will be available on Wednesday after overcoming his injury," Cocu said.

"He is working hard to get back onto the field and is focused on Wednesday's UEFA Champions League game against Atletico Madrid.

"Andres knows his body and I suppose he will be back in action on Wednesday, but if he is not match fit yet, I am confident we have the right players who can deputise in his position."

Cocu said PSV have not yet looked past their league game to prepare for Atletico.

"We haven't discussed the UEFA Champions League game yet as we realise we are entering a decisive phase in the season," he said.

"We simply cannot afford to not give our all and all the players know that. It's first things first so we only pay attention to the Heracles game."
