Marouane Fellaini is on the verge of agreeing a new contract at Everton according to the club's manager, David Moyes.
Fellaini, 23, remains Everton's record transfer after joining from Standard Liege in 2008 and is a key part of Moyes' plans as well as making himself a cult hero amongst fans. After initially revealing in April that talks had begun with the Belgian midfielder, Moyes is now optimistic that an agreement is close.
"I think it is very close to getting done," he said. "I think the chairman and the chief executive have been working on it for a while.
"I've been waiting on the good news and hopefully it's not too far away. He has been a really good player for us over the last few seasons and if we can keep him it will be really good.''
With Everton's financial position becoming the subject of increasing scrutiny, it will boost Moyes to get confirmation that he won't be in a vulnerable position should an interest be expressed in Fellaini from elsewhere.
