MLS coach of the year gets 2-year extension

HOUSTON -- Houston coach Dominic Kinnear signed a two-year contract extension with the MLS team on Wednesday.

Kinnear, the MLS coach of the year, guided the San Jose Earthquakes to an 18-4-10 record in 2005. The team moved to Houston last month.

A contest is under way to name the team, which will begin play in April at the University of Houston's Robertson Stadium.

The 38-year-old Kinnear has a 27-14-21 record in two seasons with the Earthquakes, who reached the MLS Cup playoffs twice during his tenure.
