Bayern Munich have announced that striker Mario Gomez has signed a new contract with the club.

• Gomez hoping for new Bayern deal

Gomez, 26, joined Bayern in 2009 from Stuttgart for a reported fee of around 30 million and has proved a prolific addition at the Allianz Arena.

The Germany international scored 28 Bundesliga goals last season and he has continued that form this campaign, netting 23 times in the league to date.

Bayern have now moved to tie down the forward on extended terms, agreeing a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2016.

Gomez told the side's official website: "I've always said that Bayern is a great club and that I feel comfortable here.

"I am, therefore, glad this contract extension has now been agreed. I am excited about the future here."

Bayern booked their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday night as they defeated Marseille 4-0 on aggregate.
