Racist chants cause Panama forward Luis Tejada to abandon game in Peru

Luis Tejada walked off the field in Sunday's game between Juan Aurich and Cienciano.

Panama forward Luis Tejada walked off the field in a match between Peruvian clubs Juan Aurich and Cienciano after suffering racist abuse from fans on Sunday.

Tejada, who plays for Juan Aurich, angrily kicked the ball into the stands in the 70th minute and walked off in response to racist chants directed at him from the Cienciano supporters.

Tejada was issued a yellow card by referee Ivan Chang for booting the ball away and told Peruvian outlet Depor.pe after the game: "I am sorry about...

Peruvian player struck by lightning during Copa Peru match, reports

A player in Peru was hospitalised on Wednesday night after being struck by lightning during the return leg of a Copa Peru match between Sport Aguila and Union Fuerza Minera, according to local media and rival club Union Fuerza Minera.

Joao Contreras, 21, suffered burns to his leg and a referee and another man were also injured, Union Fuerza Minera reported via their official Twitter account, adding that "all affected are out of danger, the boys are fine but had a terrible scare."

Peru Cup qualifier stopped after five players allegedly feign injury

A Peru Cup referee halted the first leg of a La Bocana and Defensor Bolívar tie eight minutes early after five Defensor Bolivar players apparently feigned injury at the same time in an alleged bid to have a match they were losing abandoned according to reports.

Brazilian president reacts to racial abuse

BRASILIA, Brazil -- Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has given her support to a black Brazilian player who was racially abused by Peruvian fans during a Copa Libertadores match.

Brazilian player Tinga, playing for Cruzeiro, was taunted with monkey chants when he entered the match in the second half on Wednesday and each time he touched the ball. The match was played in Huancayo, Peru, against Peruvian club Real Garcilaso.
