Borussia Dortmund head to Augsburg determined to make up ground in their Bundesliga title defence following an heroic Champions League performance in midweek.

A 2-2 draw with Real Madrid, which was very nearly a 2-1 win, put the German champions on the brink of qualification for the knockout stage but if they are not careful they are going to fall short of even qualifying for the competition next season.

Dortmund currently lie fifth in the league table, which is why focusing on the bread and butter is coach Jurgen Klopp's priority.

"We still have a lot of ground to make up and there are points waiting in Augsburg which we would like to take with us,'' he said.

"We go there with lots of respect and we know what we are up against.''

Last year, Dortmund managed only a 0-0 draw in Bavaria, a result which would probably not satisfy the hosts this time.

They currently prop up the league with only one win from their first 10 games and Augsburg coach Markus Weinzierl is well aware that his job is on the line.

"I do feel under pressure given our current league position,'' he told the Munchner Merkur newspaper.

"You can never say what will happen in the coaching world. You are always dependent on results.''

A second win of the campaign is therefore the aim, regardless of who the opponents are.

"We don't need to waste any time talking about how strong Dortmund are, we all know that, but we need the points and we have nothing to hide from,'' he added.

Ilkay Gundogan and Lukasz Piszczek both have knocks which jeopardise their place in the Dortmund team, but Weinzierl has no such injury problems.
