Hoffenheim coach Markus Babbel has distanced himself from his previous statements about wanting to qualify for Europe next season by recognising the current plight of his side.

Hoffenheim have made their worst ever start to a Bundesliga season with just 12 points from their first 12 games and they could find themselves in the bottom three by the time they host Bayer Leverkusen tomorrow.

Dreaming of Europe has therefore been put to one side ahead of what promises to be a tricky week with three Bundesliga fixtures.

"We don't want to make anything out to be better than it actually is,'' said Babbel.

"We know that it is a dangerous situation and we have a week ahead in which we can put a lot right.

"We have got to be alert from the very first second.''

Leverkusen's joint-coach Sascha Lewandowski also knows that a lot can change over the course of the next seven days with his side facing Werder Bremen and Nurnberg after tomorrow's trip to Hoffenheim.

"Three games in six days in which nine points are up for grabs - that's going to really shake the league table up,'' he said after the defeat to Metalist Kharkiv in the Europa League on Thursday.

"We must now focus on the Bundesliga.''

Lewandowski and Sami Hyypia were able to rest several key players for the trip to Ukraine, but they will all be back tomorrow, and are going to be needed.

"Hoffenheim are a very strong attacking side so we are going to have to be at our best defending against them,'' said Hyypia.

Gonzalo Castro still has a groin injury which makes him a doubt, while Hoffenheim are still without Chris while former Leverkusen striker Eren Derdiyok is a doubt, but Marvin Compper is back from suspension.
