Bento names Braga pair in finals 23

Portugal coach Paulo Bento named a couple of suprises in his 23-man squad for Euro 2012 when calling up Braga duo Custodio Castro and Miguel Lopes.

Custodio, 28, and 25-year-old right-back Lopes made the final cut ahead of Besiktas midfielder Manuel Fernandes and Real Betis defender Nelson.

Custodio is a completely different style of player from our other midfielders, in terms of positioning and especially in the air," said Bento. "Miguel Lopes also had a good end to the season with his club, and we want to take a player with us who is capable of playing on the right as well as the left."

Ricardo Carvalho and Jose Bosingwa were not named, having long fallen out with Bento. Cristiano Ronaldo will captain the team.

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Rui Patricio (Sporting Lisbon), Eduardo (Benfica), Beto (CFR-Cluj)

Defenders: Bruno Alves (Zenit Saint-Petersburg), Fabio Coentrao (Real Madrid), Joao Pereira (Sporting Lisbon), Pepe (Real Madrid), Ricardo Costa (Valencia), Rolando (FC Porto), Miguel Lopes (Sporting Braga)

Midfielders: Carlos Martins (Granada), Joao Moutinho (FC Porto), Custodio (Sporting Braga), Miguel Veloso (Genoa), Raul Meireles (Chelsea), Ruben Micael (Real Zaragoza)

Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Hugo Almeida (Besiktas), Helder Postiga (Real Zaragoza), Nani (Manchester United), Nelson Oliveira (Benfica), Ricardo Quaresma (Besiktas), Silvestre Varela (FC Porto)
