Timbers give contract extensions to Darlington Nagbe and Diego Chara

The Portland Timbers gave contract extensions to midfielders Darlington Nagbe and Diego Chara on Thursday.

The MLS Cup champions used targeted allocation money to lock up the players, who have both been with the club since it joined the league in 2011.

The Timbers did not reveal the length of the extensions, though Goal.com reported that Nagbe's was for four seasons.

Nagbe, 25, has scored 23 goals for Portland in 160 regular-season games, the most appearances of any Timbers player. He became a U.S. international last year when he debuted in a World Cup qualifier in November.

Chara has played to most career minutes for the Timbers, scoring six goals.

Also on Thursday, Timbers forward Fernando Adi was called up to the Nigeria national team for the first time.
