Ahead of Sydney derby, Milos Ninkovic relishes in multiple roles

In football, there's a useful way to gauge an individual's importance to a collective -- assess how things do or don't function when they are absent.

Where in the last regular season for Sydney FC, Milos Ninkovic only missed one game and was substituted before the 80th minute only once, there's been more evidence in that regard this term. The 35-year-old is undoubtedly important for Sydney -- that's common knowledge -- and remains the best player in the A-League, but when he hasn't played has...

We're at the end before the end of the A-League season. This time of the year always brings up the discussion of teams and players of the year. Who was better, or who is the best?

Attempting to give a definitive assessment in a game of perspective and subjectivity is almost like a dog chasing its tail. You will never succeed in your aim, but doing so is as much fun as it is futile or stupid.

So, before we get to see who will get to hang the most coveted toilet seat in football around their neck,...

Ninkovic shrugs off Wanderers' rough treatment

Classy Sydney FC playmaker Milos Ninkovic has shrugged off the bruising early treatment he got in his side's A-League derby, which coach Steve Corica had warned his players about.

The Harbour City rivals slugged out a 1-1 draw at ANZ Stadium on Saturday, with second-placed Sydney missing the chance to put a little more pressure on ladder leaders Perth, who can clinch the Premiers Plate on Sunday with a home win over Newcastle.

Sydney hit the front through a fine seventh-minute strike from captain...

Milos Ninkovic shines, Steven Taylor falters, A-League VAR causes more angst

Amid another video assistant referee controversy, Rob Brooks breaks down the highlights and lowlights of this weekend's A-League action.

Talking point of the weekend

For the second straight week, VAR stole the headlines during what should have been the game of the round.

The Sydney derby, which ended in a 2-0 win to Sydney FC, was blemished by a quite extraordinary decision by referee Chris Beath upon referral from VAR. Having awarded a goal to Western Sydney's Roly Bonevacia midway through the...
