Sevilla as good as Real Madrid, Barcelona - Bayern Munich's Javi Martinez

Javi Martinez warns Bayern Munich about the dangers of underestimating UCL quarter-final opponents Sevilla in an exclusive interview with ESPN FC's Raf Honigstein.
ESPN FC's Shaka Hislop questions whether or not the right manager is available to take the reins of Bayern Munich next season.

Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez has told ESPN FC his team will have to "fight" and give their all to go past Sevilla in the Champions League.

"Maybe people think they're not as good as Barcelona or Real Madrid but I think they are," the 29-year-old said ahead of Tuesday's first leg in Spain. "If we are not at 100 percent, they can beat us."

Sevilla's 2-1 aggregate win over Manchester United in the round of 16 has brought the danger of underestimating Vincenzo Montella's side into sharp relief.

Spain's World Cup squad 'not closed'; Javi Martinez, others have chance - Julen Lopetegui

Javi Martinez says he's ready to fight for a place in Spain's World Cup squad despite his absence from the latest call-ups.

Spain coach Julen Lopetegui said he has the squad he wants to take to the World Cup in mind but is leaving the door open for Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez and other players.

Martinez, who won the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 with Spain, has not played under Lopetegui since the coach replaced Vicente del Bosque in 2016. He was part of the 2014 World Cup squad but missed Euro 2016 through injury.

He told ESPN FC's Raphael Honigstein last week that he is in the dark as to why Lopetegui has...

Javi Martinez: Spain boss Julen Lopetegui hasn't explained squad snub to me

Javi Martinez says he's ready to fight for a place in Spain's World Cup squad despite his absence from the latest call-ups.

Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez has told ESPN FC that Spain national team coach Julen Lopetegui has not told him why he was not selected for the friendlies against Germany and Argentina later this month.

Martinez, 29, won the World Cup in 2010 and Euro 2012 with Spain and was also in the 2014 World Cup squad, but he missed Euro 2016 with knee and ankle injuries.

And while he has won 18 caps, he has not featured for the national team since the last World Cup and has not spoken to Lopetegui...

Jupp Heynckes hails Javi Martinez after restoring him to midfield

GLASGOW -- Jupp Heynckes hailed the contribution from Javi Martinez as Bayern Munich reached the Champions League knockout stages for the 10th consecutive season, seeing off a brave challenge from Celtic 2-1 in Glasgow.

France international Kingsley Coman put the German champions ahead midway through the first half, rounding keeper Craig Gordon but with a suspicion of handball.

Roared on by their passionate home following at Celtic Park, the home side gave as good as they got and it was no surprise...

Javi Martinez key to Jupp Heynckes' plans to fix Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich head into Wednesday night's Champions League match against Celtic without the injured Manuel Neuer, Frank Ribery and Juan Bernat. On top of that, the most important player in Jupp Heynckes' system is missing too: Javi Martinez can't play due a shoulder injury.

To understand the 29-year-old's relevance we have to go back five years. It's easily forgotten now that Heynckes very nearly lost his job after finishing as runners-up in all three competitions in 2011-12, including a chaotic...

Bayern Munich ace Javi Martinez scores stunning goals in training

With Freiburg scheduled to visit the Allianz Arena this weekend, Bayern Munich descended upon their training complex to begin their prematch preparations.

In between all the usual fitness drills, Javi Martinez found a pocket of free time to rattle off not one, but two "impossible" trick-shot goals in quick succession.

1 o 2?? Which one is better?

From several yards behind the net, Martinez used the outside of his boot to spin the ball back and across the goal-line, before inviting his followers to pick their favourite of the...
