Tim Cahill chasing meaningful game-time ahead of 2018 World Cup

Melbourne City manager Warren Joyce wishes Tim Cahill the best in the future and hopes he features in his fourth World Cup for Australia.
The FC crew explain why Australia's outlook at the World Cup is dreary after being drawn with France, Peru and Denmark.

Tim Cahill has three club games in a week to impress new national team boss Bert van Marwijk and make Australia's squad for March friendlies with Norway and Colombia.

And while Van Marwijk might just select Australia's all-time leading scorer on reputation alone, there's no doubting the 38-year-old needs game time at club level if he's to make an impact in Russia for the Socceroos.

Van Marwijk is due to name an extended 30-man squad -- with the potential for a few more -- in the first week of March.

Socceroos boss Bert van Marwijk backs Tim Cahill's Millwall move

He won't speculate on World Cup selections, but new Socceroos coach Bert van Marwijk says Tim Cahill's return to Millwall is a "very good signal."

In a promising sign for Cahill's aspirations to appear at a fourth tournament, Van Marwijk praised the 38-year-old's bold decision to leave A-League side Melbourne City and sign with the English Championship outfit that gave him his professional break.

"I think it's a very good signal that he is going to play now for Millwall," Van Marwijk said in Sydney...

Melbourne City manager Warren Joyce wishes Tim Cahill the best in the future and hopes he features in his fourth World Cup for Australia.

Australia's all-time leading goalscorer Tim Cahill is rejoining Championship side Millwall ahead of the World Cup.

Cahill played 251 matches at The Den between 1998 and 2004, scoring 57 goals before leaving for Everton and the Premier League.

The 38-year-old has been without a club since parting ways with Melbourne City last month and has his sights set on a fourth consecutive World Cup berth with the Socceroos.

Cahill completed a medical at The Den on Monday before signing alongside boss Neil Harris...

The transfer merry-go-round is in full swing! But, where will some of football's biggest stars be playing once the January window slams shut? Here's a look:

Antoine Griezmann

With their transfer ban over, and Diego Costa and Vitolo already added to their ranks, La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are spoilt for choice in the front third.

The fact that Atleti boss Diego Simeone can call on the likes of Costa and Vitolo as well as Fernando Torres, Angel Correa, Kevin Gameiro, Yannick Carrasco and Antoine...

Socceroo ace Tim Cahill could help Adelaide United, Mariners in A-League

Jason Dasey and Kaz Patafta discuss where Tim Cahill may go to find regular football in order to be selected for Australia's 2018 World Cup squad.

With Sydney FC eight points clear at the top of the table, their A-League rivals will be looking to bolster their squads in the January transfer window in an attempt to close the gap.

Here are some the key areas where each of the 10 clubs may be looking for reinforcements, with Socceroos forward Tim Cahill a free agent after leaving Melbourne City at the start of December.

Tim Cahill 'will have something lined up' already - Kevin Muscat

Check out some of Tim Cahill's stats with Melbourne City to see whether or not his stint was worthwhile for the club.

Melbourne Victory coach Kevin Muscat says he knows Tim Cahill well enough to believe he has his next playing deal stitched up.

Cahill sensationally walked from Melbourne City and, most likely, the A-League on Wednesday after agreeing terms to rip up his contract with the expansion side.

The 38-year-old has yet to announce his next destination, saying he would focus on preparing for a fourth World Cup next June's tournament in Russia.

It's there that he will aim to underscore his place in the sport...
