Crystal Palace midfielder Jason Puncheon is to stand trial for allegedly assaulting a nightclub doorman with his belt.

Puncheon appeared at Guildford Magistrates' Court in connection with the incident in Church Street, Reigate, Surrey, in the early hours of Dec. 17.

Palace's Jason Puncheon, Scott Dann ruled out for the rest of the season

Crystal Palace's Scott Dann and Jason Puncheon have been ruled out for the remainder of the season after Roy Hodgson confirmed both had suffered serious knee injuries in Sunday's 0-0 draw with Manchester City.

Both were hurt attempting to challenge City's Kevin De Bruyne, who also had to come off with an injury at the same time as Puncheon.

Their absences mean the loss of two of Palace's leaders, given both are regularly named captain, and further reduce the team's options in positions in which they...

Watford provide Palace, Sam Allardyce with a chance to show their progress

Sam Allardyce and Crystal Palace drew with Watford in his first game as the club's new manager back in December.

Throughout the football season, there are occasions that stand to be a reminder of progress or deterioration, points at which results of the past can shine a light upon performances of the present. Sam Allardyce will see Saturday's match with Watford as one of those opportunities: it's a chance to right the wrongs he felt Crystal Palace committed during his first game in charge at Vicarage Road back in December 2016.

Having just been appointed manager, Allardyce went into that game against Watford...

Crystal Palace need Jason Puncheon's punch against Burnley

Crystal Palace lost against Liverpool last time out -- as Jason Puncheon started on the bench again.

Prior to Crystal Palace's 4-2 home defeat to Liverpool on Oct. 29, a statistic surfaced that showed how crucial a player Jason Puncheon is to Alan Pardew's side. Since the midfielder signed for the club in 2013, Palace haven't won a single league game he hasn't started.

Puncheon is an underrated midfield force in English football. A player with grace, tenacity, composure and a willingness to receive the ball whether surrounded by two players or five, he has qualities that so often seem rare in English...

Could Jason Puncheon be the man to save Crystal Palace's season again?

So strange is this current Premier League season that if Crystal Palace beat Everton on Wednesday, they will go above the Toffees in the table. That's the same Palace who hadn't won a league team for three months before Saturday's win over Norwich, going above an Everton team with John Stones, Ross Barkley, Romelu Lukaku and more top-quality players.

Maybe that should shine more of a light on how disappointing Roberto Martinez's side have been this season than the craziness of the Premier League....
