Jan Oblak and Kevin Gameiro lead Atletico past upstart Eibar

Jan Oblak ensured Atletico left Eibar with all three points.
Jan Oblak was fantastic against Eibar, especially in the second half.

Atletico Madrid moved 10 points clear of city rivals Real and tightened their grip on second place in La Liga with a battling 1-0 victory away to Eibar in the pouring rain on Saturday evening.

Atleti started the stronger and took a deserved lead through Kevin Gameiro after some wonderful build-up play and that should have been the catalyst for a comfortable win as they dominated possession and chances.

However, after the break the home side dominated, and aerially bombarded Los Rojiblancos....

Vitolo earns 8/10, opens account with Atletico in lopsided win over Lleida

Atletico Madrid cruised to a 3-0, 7-0 aggregate win over Lleida.
Atletico Madrid cruised to a 7-0 aggregate win in the Copa del Rey.

Atletico Madrid strolled into the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey as they swatted aside Lleida 3-0 in Madrid on Tuesday, sealing a 7-0 aggregate victory.

They dominated from start to finish, however cut a frustrated bunch in the first half with some profligate finishing.

That all changed after the break, with Vitolo opening his account for the club after Yannick Carrasco and Kevin Gameiro also netted to complete the rout.

Diego Costa scores, is sent off as Atletico cruise past Getafe

Atletico's Diego Simeone accepts the referee's decision to issue Diego Costa a second yellow for celebrating with fans after his goal against Getafe.

Diego Costa scored and then was immediately sent off on his first La Liga game back for Atletico Madrid as they brushed local rivals Getafe aside 2-0 on Saturday.

Truth be told, in horrible weather conditions on Spain's Three Kings' day, the referee seemed determined to make it all about himself, brandishing yellow cards as if they were treats. This culminated with a lack of common sense: an emotional Costa celebrated with the Atleti fans after scoring his side's second, only to return to the...

Diego Costa scores on his return, Atletico cruise in Copa del Rey

Diego Costa expresses his eagerness to play after he was finally unveiled as an Atletico Madrid player on Sunday.

Diego Costa made a goalscoring return to action as Atletico Madrid brushed aside Lleida 4-0 in their Copa del Rey last-16 first-leg meeting on Wednesday night.

First-half strikes from Diego Godin and Fernando Torres put the visitors in charge as Diego Simeone's men looked fresh and raring to go after a fortnight off.

The introduction of Costa and fellow debutant Vitolo gave the second half some added spark and the Spain striker had barely been on the pitch five minutes when he swept home Juanfran's...

Fernando Torres lackluster, Kevin Gameiro 1/10 in Atletico defeat

Atletico Madrid's Fernando Torres couldn't get anything going against Espanyol.

Atletico Madrid slumped to their first La Liga defeat of the season after shipping yet another late goal, succumbing 1-0 to Espanyol.

Los Rojiblancos looked off it all night and never really looked like securing a victory in Catalonia against a side happy to sit back and soak up pressure. The sight of Fernando Torres labouring up top was frustrating, while substitute Kevin Gameiro then missed a sitter as he ran through one-on-one only to fluff his shot late on.

It proved costly as Sergio Garcia...

Fernando Torres: 'I would love' Antoine Griezmann to stay at Atletico Madrid

Raf Honigstein still expects Antoine Griezmann to join Barcelona this summer even after the club were reported for illegally approaching the Atletico Madrid forward.

Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres says he hopes Antoine Griezmann does not leave the club, while president Enrique Cerezo has called for respect from Barcelona after they allegedly tapped up the France international.

Atletico made an official complaint to FIFA this week over Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu allegedly holding a direct meeting with Griezmann, which could lead to sanctions being imposed on the Catalan club and on the player himself.

Griezmann revealed in his recent biography...
